BY BICYCLE AND BOAT IN THE PARMA LOWLANDS, PEPPONE AND DON CAMILLO, CASTLES AND
CULATELLO
FIRST DAY – The Po river and Giovannino Guareschi’s Little World
Arrival in Parma Lowlands, in Diolo di Soragna and visit to the Giovannino Guareschi
Museum.
Stop at Roncole Verdi, the little village where Giuseppe Verdi wan born and where
Guareschi lived until 1952, year of his death. Visit to the Giovannino Guareschi
Permanent Anthological Exhibition, the small study centre, the Guareschi Archives
inside the “Ventitrè” Club. Optional, visit to Verdi birthplace. Tasting-brunch
at a restaurant with local cuisine of the Parma lowlands and guided tour of the
annexed seasoning Cellar of the Culatello di Zibello. Afternoon, biking along
the Po or boarding for a mini cruise on the river. Trasfer and guided tour of
the old town centre of Brescello, the town where the Peppone and Don Camillo films
were made (Parish Church with the talking Christ, Town Hall, Peppone and Don Camillo
Museum). Dinner and accommodation in hotel.
SECOND DAY – Pedalling through the plain, evocative castles and unforgettable flavours Breakfast. Transfer and meet the specialist MTB guide at the Sanvitale Castle
in Fontanellato, visit to the fortress and departure by bicycle. Arrival at the
farm holiday and lunch with typical local products. Afternoon, biking towards
the Rocca Meli Lupi di Soragna, visit to the castle. Visit a cheese plant to see
the production of Parmigiano-Reggiano. Biking towards the enchanting Romanesque
San Genesio parish church and then back to the Fontanellato Castle. Departure.
On request, bicycles can be hired near the point of departure from an authorised
dealer.
