This tour is centred on the history and the masterpieces to be found in the city
and its province. From the medieval atmosphere of the Cathedral square to works
from the XVI century with the masterpieces of Correggio and Parmigianino and the
splendid Farnese Theatre. Finally the period of Maria Luigia of Austria with
the Teatro Regio opera house, the Ducal Palace with its magnificent park and the
many traces of that time to be found in the castles and historical homes of the
province. There is significant evidence as well as important works of art in
the castles, the Cathedrals and the churches of the Parma countryside.
FIRST DAY - Parma, treasures and history
Arrival and visit to Parma old city center along an itinerary that includes all
the masterpieces hosted in the town (National Gallery and Farnese Theatre, Regio
Theatre, St. Paul’s Rooms, Glauco Lombardi Museum). Free time for lunch. Afternoon, continuation of the tour of the old-town centre of Parma: Cathedral, Baptistery, St. John’s Church or Santa Maria della Steccata Curch
and the Stuard Gallery). Return to the hotel. Dinner in a typical restaurant with visit to an aging cellar
of Culatello di Zibello (prime-cut ham). Return to the hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.
SECOND DAY – Breakfast and meeting with the guide. Stroll in the old city center
and along the Ducal Garden, visit to the Ducal Palace. Visit to the Casa Natale
Arturo Toscanini (house where Toscanini was born) and walking in the characteristic
“Oltretorrente” quarter and on Parma bridges. Lunch and afternoon at Your choice.
Dinner at a special Verdi club in the “Oltretorrente” quarter with the possibility
to organize a very pleasant welcoming drink and toast with live opera music. Overnight
stay in hotel.
THIRD DAY – The treasures in the castles and in the … cellars
Breakfast and check-out. Visit to the Rocca Sanvitale di Fontanellato with the beautiful Diana and Atteone room frescoed
by Parmigianino, visit to the Rocca Meli Lupi di Soragna and to its splendid decorated rooms. Lunch in typical restaurant.
Afternoon, visit to a wine cellar producing “Vini dei Colli di Parma”. Visit to
vineyards, wine tasting with typical products. Departure.
