The small villages of the Verdi homelands, Roncole, Busseto, Sant’Agata, which
today more than ever exist cocooned in the music and memories of the Great Maestro,
the passion for Opera which lingers in the characteristic alleyways of central
Parma, the immense tradition of the Teatro Regio built in the XIX century for
Maria Luigia, the birth house of Toscanini, the Conservatoire music school with
the studies of Boito and Toscanini, the Farnese Theatre, the House of Music,
magical musical evenings in the brilliantly lit theatres or set in places as
diverse as historical city squares and castles have all endowed Parma with the
title of “ Music Capital”. Let us discover it through this itinerary which touches
all the places close to Verdi and Toscanini and is completed by a charming private
concert.
FIRST DAY - Arrival in Parma and visit to the Casa Natale Arturo Toscanini (house
where Toscanini was born), stroll through the Ducal Garden, visit to the Farnese
Theatre, Verdi Monument and to the Teatro Regio di Parma. Lunch in a downtown
restaurant featuring local Parma cuisine. Afternoon: continuation of Parma’s old
town tour and musical itinerary with the House of Music, the Cathedral and the
Baptistery. Stroll through the historical centre and visit to Toscanini and Boito
studios inside the Arrigo Boito Conservatory. Musical evening with private operatic
performance or musical aperitif with famous Verdi and opera arias. Dinner at a
restaurant or in a Verdi haunt featuring typical Parma cuisine. Return and overnight
stay at the hotel.
SECOND DAY - Breakfast and leave for Verdi’s home land. Tour of Roncole Verdi to visit
the house in which Verdi was born, St. Michael’s Church and of Sant’Agata (Villa
Verdi). Transfer to Busseto and to Teatro Verdi and Casa Barezzi Museum. Lunch
in a typical restaurant with a characteristic Verdi atmosphere. In the afternoon
walk through Busseto along Via Roma as far as Villa Pallavicino and visit the
new National Giuseppe Verdi Museum. Departure.
